Thalamus Establishes New Standard for Trustworthy AI in Academic Medicine Through Partnership with Trustible

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — April 3, 2026 — Thalamus, the leading platform for Graduate Medical Education (GME) recruitment and physician workforce intelligence, today announced a strategic partnership with Trustible, the purpose-built AI governance platform, to operationalize and scale its responsible AI framework, “Artificial Intelligence: The Thalamus Way,” across its products and operations.

The partnership represents a significant step forward in establishing a new standard for how artificial intelligence is developed, deployed, and governed in medical education—at a time when the transitions from medical school to residency and fellowship, and into the broader physician workforce are facing increasing complexity and strain.

Restoring Trust in a System Under Pressure

The transition from medical school to residency is one of the most consequential moments in a physician’s educational journey. Over time, it has grown increasingly complex, driven by misaligned incentives across stakeholders. Application volumes far exceed what can be meaningfully accomplished through human-driven review. The result is a system shaped by information gaps, growing inefficiencies, and misalignment between applicant competitiveness and program selection.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already being adopted across the medical education ecosystem to address this. As these tools become more widely used, the focus is shifting from whether AI should be implemented to how it is implemented, creating a clear need for approaches that are transparent, measurable, and aligned with the values of the medical education community.

Through its collaboration with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and integration with the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), Thalamus has expanded its presence across the medical education community to over 8000 residency and fellowship programs across over 800 institutions nationally. This growth in scale and scope further reinforces Thalamus’s commitment to the responsible development and application of these technologies, aligned with its purpose as a public benefit corporation.

“For over a decade, Thalamus’s success has been predicated on the trust it has earned from the medical education community by supporting millions of interviews for applicants and programs,” said Jason Reminick, MD, MBA, MS, CEO and Founder of Thalamus. “As AI becomes more integrated into this process, we believe it is our responsibility and duty to lead—not just in building these technologies, but in how they are developed, governed, and applied. Through deeper engagement with the community, increased transparency, and partnerships like Trustible, we are working to ensure that AI is implemented in a way that strengthens trust and sets a standard not only for academic medicine, but for any organization supporting the physician career journey.”

From Principles to Practice: Operationalizing Responsible AI

Thalamus is now scaling these commitments into a structured, auditable system of governance, with Trustible as the platform powering this infrastructure, that will include:

  • A centralized inventory of all AI systems, models, and use cases across the platform
  • Risk-based intake and evaluation workflows for AI capabilities
  • Structured assessments of model performance, bias, and impact
  • Audit-ready governance documentation that can be shared with institutions and partners
  • Alignment with emerging medical education and healthcare AI standards, including the AAMC’s Principles for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in and for Medical Education and frameworks from the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI).

“In medicine, new interventions aren’t introduced without rigorous evaluation, continuous monitoring, and accountability,” said Vlad Eidelman, PhD, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Thalamus. “We believe AI should meet that same standard. Our partnership with Trustible brings that same external rigor to our AI governance, ensuring we don't just build AI, but build systems the community can trust.

The partnership with Trustible reflects a shared belief that governance must be foundational, not reactive, in the development of AI. “Thalamus is setting a new bar for responsible AI in healthcare,” said Gerald Kierce-Iturrioz, CEO and Co-Founder of Trustible. “They’ve demonstrated leadership through transparency, published methodologies, and deep engagement with the GME community. With Trustible, they now have the infrastructure to make those commitments measurable, auditable, and scalable.”

Building AI alongside the Medical Education Community

As part of its broader commitment to responsible innovation, Thalamus is continuing to deepen its engagement with the medical education community to ensure that AI is developed and deployed in a way that reflects the needs and values of all stakeholders.

The company has convened national advisory boards representing applicants (medical students, residents and fellows), alongside leaders in Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), creating a structured forum for feedback, collaboration, and shared learning.

“Academic medicine has a responsibility to ensure that new technologies enhance fairness, reduce bias, and strengthen trust,” said Jeffrey S. Berns, MD, newly-appointed Chief Academic Officer at Thalamus. “What distinguishes Thalamus is its willingness to engage openly with the community, listen to concerns, and incorporate that feedback into how its technology evolves.”

"As artificial intelligence continues to be explored in medical education, it is essential that innovation is guided by transparency, accountability, and collaboration,” said David J. Skorton, MD, President and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). “We appreciate Thalamus’s thoughtful approach and its commitment to engaging the medical education community as these technologies evolve."

Thalamus will continue to advance its responsible AI efforts through ongoing collaboration with the medical education community, expanded transparency initiatives, and continued investment in governance and evaluation frameworks. As the role of AI in physician selection evolves, the company remains committed to ensuring these technologies are developed and applied in ways that strengthen trust, improve alignment, and support better outcomes for physicians, and ultimately, the patients they serve.
