Announcing the All-New Thalamus Video

Faster. Smarter. Beautifully Designed. Built by GME, for GME.
At Thalamus, we’re committed to helping graduate medical education (GME) applicants and programs connect in the most seamless, reliable, and human-centered way possible. Today, we’re excited to unveil the new Thalamus Video, redesigned with our updated brand identity and rebuilt with novel enhancements that make virtual interviews more engaging and efficient than ever before.

Last season, we set the stage by enhancing and supporting virtual interviews for thousands of programs and tens of thousands of applicants nationwide. This year, we’ve taken it even further—listening to your feedback, studying key workflows, and reimagining what the next iteration of our best-in-class video interview platform should look like for the GME community.
We are excited to announce that the new Thalamus Video will be available to all programs starting Thursday, September 18, 2025, supporting the conclusion of the July fellowship season and arriving for the start of the September residency season.
All user guides have been fully updated to support the new experience, and will be available for the release (check back here starting Thursday morning, September 18).
What’s New in Thalamus Video

- Improved Compatibility Mode: Broader support across devices to maximize accessibility.
- Integrated Scoring: Thalamus Holistic Review, our competency-based scoring system, is now even more deeply embedded, with a more optimized workflow for faculty interviewers to evaluate applicants in real-time directly from within the video experience.
- New Thalamus Video Admin Hub (formerly MasterView): A refreshed take on our signature centralized viewing panel, now with more flexibility and ease of use to manage interview rooms, send virtual knocks and more!
Practice & Tech Checks
Programs can practice with the new Thalamus Video experience by running test sessions for faculty prior to their interview days. This provides an easy way for interview teams to get comfortable with the updated workflows, system test, and integrated scoring before going live during recruitment season.
For fellowship programs currently in the process of interviewing, the main workflows remain consistent and intuitive, and there are no major changes that should require additional learning from your applicants, faculty or coordinators.
Applicants also have multiple opportunities to ensure their setup is ready. Applicants may access Thalamus Video rooms once an interview day itinerary is published on their Thalamus MySchedule page (*if the program is using Thalamus Video). Many programs also choose to run a short tech check session the morning of interview day as a best practice, giving applicants and interviewers alike peace of mind before the first session of the day begins.
Note: We recommend using Thalamus Video with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge for the smoothest experience. While other browsers are supported, some features may be limited and your overall experience may be affected.
Proven at Scale
Thalamus Video has become the trusted solution for GME virtual interviews:
- 35+ million minutes of interviews completed last season across 600,000+ interview sessions, adding to a total of 125+ million minutes since launch in 2020.
- 1 million+ applicant and interviewer participants across the platform since inception.
With over 90% of residency programs now using Thalamus to schedule interviews, we expect to break last year’s record again this season!
Built for the Future of GME Recruitment
The new Thalamus Video mirrors the same design principles and innovations that shaped our updated Cortex platform—fast, intuitive, and purpose-built for GME.

Together, these updates represent our continued commitment to giving programs and applicants the tools they need to focus on what matters most: meaningful connections and fair, efficient recruitment.
Next Steps
All Thalamus users (programs and applicants) will automatically have access to the enhanced Thalamus Video web platform starting on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
