This Giving Tuesday: Support Future Physicians Through Thalamus.Org

Dear Thalamus Community,

As leaders in medical education, you see the challenges facing future physicians every day. You know how difficult the pathway to residency has become — especially for applicants who face significant financial and structural barriers long before they reach their interviews.

This Giving Tuesday, we’d like to introduce you to Thalamus.org, our independently operated, sibling nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the U.S. physician workforce by directly supporting aspiring physicians.

What Is Thalamus.Org?

Thalamus.Org was founded by the creators of Thalamus after seeing firsthand how the rising costs of residency applications were preventing talented students from pursuing training opportunities nationwide.

The mission is simple but urgent:

Thalamus.Org is committed to improving health outcomes by strengthening the U.S. physician workforce. By investing in the next generation of physicians, from their first steps toward medicine through their training and into practice, we help ensure that every community benefits from accessible, compassionate and skilled care.

Thalamus.org provides:

  • Residency application scholarships for students with financial need
  • Emerging pipeline programs focused on rural and underserved communities
  • Partnerships that expand access, including the Kapor Foundation

Impact So Far

Thanks to early donors and partners, Thalamus.Org has already:

  • Raised $400,000
  • Awarded more than $50,000 in residency application scholarships with another $50,000 under review
  • Supported trainees entering competitive specialties
  • Started building early pipeline programs to support under-resourced communities

Applicants who received support describe the impact as transformative — allowing them to apply broadly, attend interviews, and ultimately match successfully.

Importantly, 1% of all Thalamus revenues are donated to Thalamus.Org annually.

How You Can Help This Giving Tuesday

This Giving Tuesday and throughout this year, Thalamus.Org aims to raise an additional $250,000 to continue expanding scholarships and developing programs to support the next generation of physicians.

Your support today helps:

  • Reduce inequities in the physician pipeline
  • Expand access to care in rural and underserved communities
  • Ensure trainees have a fair opportunity to reach the programs where they can thrive

Donate Today:

Every contribution — large or small — directly supports future residents and the communities they will one day serve. If you are unable to donate, you can still be part of this mission by sharing this campaign with colleagues.

Thank you for everything you do to support the next generation of physicians. We are honored to partner with you in building a stronger and more equitable path into GME.

Warmly,

The Thalamus Team
